About Sunny Isles
The City of Sunny Isles, Florida is located on a barrier island in the northeast part of Miami-DadeCounty. Sunny Isles is bounded by the Atlantic Ocean on the east as well as the Intercostal Waterway to the west. The City has a prime location in South Florida with Miami International Airport, Fort-Lauderdale/Hollywood International Airport, the Port of Miami, and Port Everglades only a short distance away. The current population of Sunny Isles is 20,832, and is referred to as “Little Moscow” due to a large and increasing Russian population. Sunny Isles Beach encompasses the extremely diverse and myriad plethora of dialects and cultures which is prevalent throughout the region of South Florida.
Named by Henry Baker Graves in the 1920’s, Sunny Isles Beach was originally purchased as a location for a beach resort and a tourist hot spot. Due to its name and geographic location, the City was soon transformed into the Little Venice of America. Currently, Sunny Isles Beach is experiencing a tremendous redevelopment renaissance on the east side of Collins Avenue, the city’s main thoroughfare. Zoning laws are put into place to ensure view corridors and beach access pathways are available to residents and tourists. To the west of the Avenue, the city is constructing new recreational parks, a community center, improving the infrastructure, as well as laying the groundwork for future development. In order to add splendor, the City is tearing down many of the outdated motels, and instead constructing luxury oceanfront condominiums.
Sunny Isles Beach is extremely beautiful and is adorned with miles of white sand beaches, picturesque water, and a humid atmosphere which is typical of a tropical paradise. Collins Avenue, the City’s main thoroughfare and tourist attraction, offers diverse cafés, restaurants, and exclusive as well as mainstream boutiques and shopping establishments. Sunny Isles also offers attractions such as the Aventura Mall, Oleta River State Park, Surfside Park, and the Museum of Contemporary Art. Water sports and amenities are also omnipresenly abundant throughout Sunny Isles Beach, such as kayaking, boating, jet skiing, snorkeling and diving. The City’s palm lined boulevards, stunning oceanfront villas, and world renowned cultural attractions are all of immense appeal and are extremely sought after.
