Fort Lauderdale is a sought after city located in Broward Country, Florida. The city of Fort Lauderdale adheres to the Atlantic Ocean, and is 23 miles north of Miami. Being one of the principle cities of the South Florida metropolitan area, Fort Lauderdale is home to more than 5,000,000 residents.
The city is named after a series of Forts built in the United States during the Second Seminole War. Fort Lauderdale’s name is directly derived from Major William Lauderdale who commanded the squadron of soldiers who first constructed the forts. The construction and development of the actual city was delayed 50 years until the end of the war. There were three forts constructed that were dubbed Fort Lauderdale, and which currently serve as hotspots for tourists and history enthusiasts.
